LIFE INGREDIENTS FITNESS
30-MINUTE AMRAP
We lose things as we age. There’s no disputing this, and there’s no shame in it. The pursuit of health and fitness, at a certain point, becomes a war of attrition. I’ve found a kind of beauty in it; These days, I may not be able to lift the kind of weight I did when I was in my 20s, but what I’ve gained in terms of perspective, love, appreciation, wisdom… well, to me it’s more than a fair trade.
I hadn’t planned on getting sentimental here. I was just trying to make a point: we expect to lose strength and recovery ability with age. What’s a surprise to most of us is how much time we lose. The workouts of our youth—when we could confidently burn 60 or 90 minutes in the gym, separating cardio from long, traditional weight training—they simply don’t work when you’ve got a demanding day job and kids to get home to. But time constraints (whatever the cause) cannot become an excuse for not taking care of yourself. You need to adjust and make the most of your time, and a great way to do that is by turning your weight training into your cardio.
That’s where Steve Wrona’s workout this month comes in. My trainer came up with a workout that hits every muscle, doubles as cardio, and takes just 30 minutes. How’d he do it? Check out the video to have him walk you through the whole thing.
