Healing After the Badge

While serving as a deputy sheriff, Michael’s life changed in an instant. In the line of duty, he was violently attacked—an incident that left him with a traumatic brain injury and a long road to recovery. The impact went beyond the physical injuries. The TBI brought lasting challenges, including balance issues, memory difficulties, and chronic pain, while the emotional toll manifested in anxiety, hypervigilance, and the lingering effects of PTSD. Once defined by his ability to protect and serve, Michael found himself facing the difficult task of adjusting to a new reality.

Service Dog Frannie Recipient

Amid the uncertainty, one constant source of strength emerged: his service dog, Frannie. Specially trained to provide both mobility assistance and PTSD support, Frannie is more than a helper—she’s a lifeline. She steadies Michael when his balance falters, retrieves items to make daily life easier, and interrupts moments of anxiety before they escalate. Just as importantly, she offers the steady, nonjudgmental companionship that only a dog can give.

Together, Michael and Frannie have formed a powerful partnership built on trust and unconditional loyalty. With Frannie by his side, Michael is regaining not only his independence, but also a sense of purpose and hope for the future. She gives him the confidence to step back into the world, knowing he’s not facing it alone.
