Tyler Jeffries

Specialist U.S. Army (Ret.)
Specialist Tyler Jeffries, a proud U.S. Army veteran, embodies courage, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve. A native of Zephyrhills, Florida, Tyler grew up with a strong sense of duty and a desire to serve. With his father having served in the Navy, joining the military felt like a calling—an opportunity to make a difference and make his family proud.
That calling took a life-altering turn on October 6, 2012, while deployed in Afghanistan. During a dismounted patrol to establish an observation point on a village frequently hostile to U.S. forces, Tyler was struck by a command-wired improvised explosive device (IED). The explosion resulted in the traumatic amputation of both legs and severe injuries.
Tyler vividly recalls regaining consciousness just seconds after the blast, surrounded by his fellow soldiers frantically calling his name. As he was pulled from the blast site, he looked down and saw the devastating impact—his legs gone and the ground around him covered in debris and blood. At that moment, he believed his story was over. But his brothers-in-arms refused to let him go. Their rapid response and lifesaving efforts gave him a second chance.
Following his evacuation and stabilization, Tyler began a long road to recovery—one filled with surgeries, rehabilitation, and the fight to reclaim independence.
