William Ward

In July of 1992, William Ward answered the call to serve his country, shipping off to Marine Corps boot camp and beginning a distinguished 15-year career with the United States Marine Corps. Rising to the rank of Corporal in the 21st Tank Battalion Communications Platoon, he deployed twice in support of operations in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, serving with pride and honor.

Upon returning to the U.S., William transitioned into a new role as a Marine Corps Recruiter in Schenectady, New York, where he quickly advanced to Gunnery Sergeant and became the Recruiting Operations Chief—a pivotal leadership position as a career recruiter, shaping the next generation of Marines.

In 2005, William’s military career was cut short after a life-altering motorcycle accident left him paralyzed from the chest down. He was medically discharged from the Marine Corps, but his commitment to excellence and service never wavered.

Despite his injury, William has forged a remarkable post-military life. Refusing to let his wheelchair limit him, he embraced adaptive sports, trying downhill skiing, then expanding to golf and hand cycling. He has competed in the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, earning multiple gold medals, and remains an active participant in the Albany VA Adaptive Sports Program.

Beyond athletics, William contributes significantly to his community, working in the IT field and generously volunteering his time. Known and admired by his family, neighbors, and even the children in his neighborhood, William is surrounded by a strong support network that reflects the impact he continues to make every day.
