The Robert Irvine Foundation proudly hosted a Face the Fight presentation focused on suicide prevention and crisis response, bringing together veterans and their families of the Erie community for an impactful day of learning, discussion, and action. Representing the Foundation, Bob Yarnall and Mike Schlitz led the effort to create a space for open conversation, practical skill-building, and renewed commitment to saving lives.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in crisis response planning and lethal means safety training, gaining tools to recognize warning signs, intervene effectively, and build stronger networks of support. These interactive sessions emphasized that suicide prevention isn’t just about awareness. It’s about preparedness, connection, and compassion in moments that matter most.

Following the training, everyone came together for a Breaking Bread With Heroes meal, a tradition that allows participants to pause, share stories, and find strength in community. Over shared food and conversation, the event reinforced that healing and resilience grow through understanding and unity.

The experience concluded with an Element of Resiliency project, where teamwork and reflection turned the lessons of the day into action, a tangible reminder that when we work together, we can help every hero find hope, purpose, and belonging.

This event embodied the heart of the Robert Irvine Foundation’s mission: to support the physical, mental, and emotional wellness of those who serve and to ensure that no hero faces their battles alone.

Thank you to the Bob Woodruff Foundation Grant which made this day possible!
