The YOMP

The Army Benevolent Fund's Cateran YOMP is more than a physical challenge through Scotland’s breathtaking Cairngorm Mountains, it’s a journey of healing, purpose, and connection. Participants push themselves to hike 22, 36, or 54 miles in 24 hours, but the true impact isn’t measured in miles; it’s measured in resilience, camaraderie, and personal transformation. The Robert Irvine Foundation proudly sponsors veterans to participate at no cost, removing financial barriers so they can focus on rediscovering strength, building community, and walking a path no one has to face alone.

The Power of the YOMP

The Yomp is more than a physical challenge, it’s a global community walking side by side, building resilience, forming bonds, and proving that no one has to walk alone. We’re not just helping veterans complete a hike; we’re helping them rediscover purpose, connection, and hope.

Veterans Become Family

To deepen the impact, we’ve expanded the experience with an additional day focused entirely on resiliency, recovery, and relationship-building. Through welcome dinners, heritage site visits, and intentional moments of connection, veterans arrive as individuals but leave as a family—united by shared struggle and lasting transformation.

Growing Participation

In 2024, we sponsored 25 veterans to participate in the Cateran YOMP and in 2025, we sponsored 65 participants to take part in this transformative event, joining thousands of other allied veterans from across the globe. Together, they faced the elements, conquered the terrain, and found strength not just in themselves, but in each other. In 2026, we plan to sponsor 100 participants.

The YOMP

I found a lifelong friend. I found healing.

I’ve battled PTSD, suicidal thoughts, and the quiet weight of becoming an empty nester. But now I have new tools…and a team I know I can count on. I found a lifelong friend. I found healing. I found myself again at 58 years old. And I’m so grateful to the Robert Irvine Foundation for giving me that.
